Cisco 7200 series routers offer a choice of four input/output (I/O) controllers. In addition to the base functionality of all the Cisco 7200 series I/O controllers, the Cisco 7200 series I/O controllers provide additional functionality. The C7200-I/O-GE+E provides a Gigabit Ethernet port and a 10 BaseT Ethernet port, as well as an additional 4MB of Flash memory. The Gigabit Ethernet port on the C7200-I/O-GE+E is an industry standard GBIC. 802.1q virtual LAN (VLAN) and Inter-Switch Link (ISL) support are provided as software selectable features. The second Ethernet port on the C7200-I/O-GE+E is a 10 BaseT Ethernet port. 802.1q VLAN support is also available on this port.

The Cisco 7200-I/O-2FE/E is an Input/Output controller that provides two autosensing Fast Ethernet ports and is equipped with two RJ-45 receptacles for 10/100 Mbps operation.

I/O controllers support the following features:

* Dual EIA/TIA-232 channels for local console and auxiliary ports
* NVRAM for storing the system configuration and environmental monitoring logs
* Two PC Card slots that hold Flash disks or Flash memory cards for storing the default Cisco IOS software image
* Flash memory for storing the boot helper image
* Two environmental sensors for monitoring the cooling air as it enters and leaves the chassis
